Garden City Radio 89.9 lost their first game of the Henry Kalio Cup to Radio UST 1-0 in Match Day 2 of the SWAN Henry Kalio Cup on Monday.

However, what made more news was the attitude of their players on the pitch as Benjamin Sawadinho Okenna, Sanipe Damiete and Ibisaki were given yellow cards which meant they left the pitch for 2 minutes before Sanipe was sent off outright when he received a red card.

The coach of the Garden City Radio team was also given the marching orders before the end of the first half.

Emmanuel Kalu scored the only goal of the game in the 2nd half that gave three points to the school boys.

Benjamin Sawadinho Okenna congratulated players of Radio UST for the win.

It was a big disappointment today, but Friday is another day for us. Congratulations to Radio UST,” Sawadinho said after the game.

In the first game of the day, Rivers State Television beat AIT Ray Power 2-1.

Bassey Junior and Victor Hezekiah scored for RSTV while Edwin Anyanwu pulled one back for Ray Power.

Ray Power’s goalkeeper, Peter Abaje was Most Valuable Player after his saves kept the score line decent for his side.

Abaje said after the game that they will play better next time out.

It was disappointing to say the least but we will surely play better in our next game,” Abaje told ChinaAcheru.com.

In Tuesday’s games, Wave FM will return to the pitch against Treasure FM while Tide will play Today FM.

In their opening games, Wave FM lost 1-0 to Tide while Treasure Treasure FM beat Cool/ Wazobia/ Nigeria Info FM 2-0.

Today FM will be making their first appearance in this year’s edition.
Meanwhile, Riquelmish midfielder Zazi Bariza has taken to twitter to voice his frustrations at being dropped from the team to participate in the tournament.

On learning of his fate, Bariza tweeted “Today my dream died! I’ve been dropped from the @TodayFM951 squad for the SWANHenryKalioCup.😩😫😩”.

The Team Manager, Emeka Dennar however said it was a purely footballing reasons that led to Bariza’s axe.

In his words “Before Zazi turns, the time would be almost up.”

  1. They shouldn’t underestimate these school boys. These boys have been practicing for a long time. Never judge a book by its cover. They didn’t take their time slacking off in their homes. They made their time worthwhile by dedicating themselves in practicing.
