A two day training program for coaches and players of hockey has ended in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The event which was sponsored by the Nigeria Olympic Committee in conjunction with the Fédération Internationale de Hockey and organized by the Nigeria Hockey Federation was aimed at educating the officials and players of hockey in Rivers State the modern techniques of the game.
Speaking in Port Harcourt, Head of coaching, Nigeria Hockey Federation, Fatai Atanda said the program was needed to change Nigeria the negative way of how the game is been played and coached in the country.
A Pakistani instructor from the Fédération Internationale de Hockey and also an Ambassador of Nigeria Hockey Federation Nadeem Ahmed said the State Government through the Sports Ministry needs to support this initiative for it to succeed.
He said this when he alongside the Rivers State Hockey officials led by the acting chairman of the state hockey association Mr. Arthor Jumbo visited the permanent secretary of the ministry Mr. Nnodem Michael.
Responding, Mr. Nnodem Michael assured Mr. Ahmed that the State Government will work together with the state hockey association to achieve the aim of the program.
Meanwhile, Mr. Michael also assured the Rivers State Hockey Association of a proper hosting by the State Government after Rivers State male and
female hockey teams have emerged Champions of the League two hockey championship held in Port Harcourt back in July.
