Brown Ideye eyes NPFL return

Former Super Eagles striker and African Cup of Nations, AFCON winner, Brown Ideye, is set to return to the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL.

Ideye, who last played for Al-Yarmouk in Kuwait, told Chinaacheru.com that he wants to end his glorious career in the league that brought him to public light.

“I turn 36 today, October 10, and I have played in Switzerland, France, Ukraine, England, Greece, China, Spain, and the Middle East, ” Ideye told Chinaacheru.com.

“At international level, I was at the U20 World Cup in 2007 as well as the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. I also won the AFCON in 2013 and played in the FIFA Confederations Cup.

“There are many who didn’t have the kind of success that came my way, and I can only be grateful.”

The scramble for Ideye

Ideye started his football career at Bayelsa United in 2006, and then he moved to Europe.

It is, however, unclear whether he has plans to return to where it all started, in Yenagoa.

“A few clubs have spoken with me, and are currently in talks with my management. We hope to seal a deal by next week when the Match Day 9 window for player registration opens.”

Even though he will not reveal, a person who should know told ChinaAcheru.com that five clubs in the NPFL have currently signified their interest in Ideye. Two from the South South, one from the South East, and two from the South West.

Should Ideye return to the NPFL, it will mark a glorious entry into arenas that set him up to be one of the quickest thinking strikers to strut his stuff in NPFL.

Ideye’s former colleagues, Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdulahi recently returned to the League with Kano Pillars. Musa got a brace on his League return against Sunshine Stars. Other greats like Rashidi Yekini, Sani Abacha, Sani Kaita, Emmanuel Ebiede have previously returned to the League after sojourns in Europe.

Ideye’s career has so far seen him score 159 goals in 442 games. At International, he played 28 games for Nigeria and scored six goals.
