Ecstasy! Wave FM celebrate their third goal against Today FM
Organisers, the CorporatePH6 Ltd on Wednesday morning informed participants that there will be no more games until Monday, April 17 as the owners of the facility where the tournament holds have said the pitch would not be available for use.
The games have been played at the Sharks FC Stadium which is owned by the Rivers State Sports ministry.
Meanwhile, in Tuesday’s games, Cool/Wazobia/Info FM forced Wave FM to a draw as the encounter ended 1-1.
Justice Worgu put Wave FM ahead and for a moment it seemed as though they would win their first ever game at the Henry Kalio Cup but Allen Onyege equalized for the Billionaires and it remained 1-1 at full time.
Embattled manager of Wave FM, Queen John described it as a lost opportunity to finally win a game and bow out out on a high.
“We could have bowed out honourably from the tournament but we missed so many scoring opportunities in the game.
“Also poor communication led to the goal we conceded. All the same, we leave with our heads high by at least preventing the billionare side from getting their first win and also learning a lot, hoping that next edition will be a better outing for the team,” Queen John told ChinaAcheru.com.
Manager of the billionaire Cool/Wazobia/Info FM side, Ufuoma Egbamuno who returned to the dugout after what the rumour mills called a one match suspension for incompetence said poor marksmanship has been their bane.
“We played well, especially in the first half where we created loads of chances. Unfortunately, all that work was undone by by poor marksmanship.
“Our attackers squandered loads of opportunities, sometimes one on one with the keeper and if only we could take our chances we won’t be where we are now with two points from three games,” Egbamuno told ChinaAcheru.com.
In the second game of the day, Treasure 98.5 FM thrashed Today 95.1 FM 3-1 to maintain a one hundred percent record in this year’s edition.
Edward Okpotu opened scores for Treasure FM and Stanley Nwoghalu made it 2-0.
Igwechi put Today FM to the sword with the third goal for his side before Uchendu Ejiowhor pulled one back for the losers.
Coach of Today FM, Emeka Dennar reveled in the fact that they have been the only side to score a goal against Treasure FM in this year’s tournament.
“It was a sad loss but we look on the bright side. We are the only team to score against Treasure FM in this year’s tournament,” Dennar told ChinaAcheru.com.
Captain of Treasure FM, Benson Clement revealed that it was good revenge for his side.
“In the first edition of this tournament, we lost 2-1 to Today FM and getting a 3-1 win over them is simply fantastic.
“I am disappointed that we let them score a cheap goal in the second half because we all wanted a clean sheet.
“Overall the win has placed us in the semi finals which is more important to us. We hope to continue this winning mentality when we entertain Tide next week,” Clement told ChinaAcheru.com
