Presidential candidate at the forthcoming Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) national election, Honour Sirawoo, has stated that the aim of his administration, if he is eventually elected, will be to bring back professionalism into the body.

Sirawoo made this known when he spoke as a guest on a live radio show in Port Harcourt.

The South-south zonal vice president of SWAN said that it is only when there is true professionalism that the body would be able to act as a catalyst for sports development.

“I’m seeing SWAN as a catalyst for sports development anchored on professionalism and dignity. We need to bring back that professionalism,” Sirawoo stated.

“When there is professionalism, there would be dignity. I will be able to do that through training and retraining of our members”

He went on to state that his administration will build a robust body that members would be proud to be associated with.

“I want to see an association whose members would be proud to be called sports writers,” said the former chairman of SWAN Rivers State.

“You know there is the NBA, there is the Nigeria Medical Association, these are proud associations and I want us to be same.

“I want to see a SWAN that will play its role. Once we have achieved that, I will be comfortable.”

While admitting the achievements of the outgoing Saidu Abubakar-led administration, Sirawoo said there are still areas that the next administration could improve on.

The SWAN national election is scheduled for July 13th in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

If elected, Sirawoo would be the first person outside the Northern and South-Western region to occupy the top sit in its fifty-two years history.
