Rivers State Television beat school boys, Radio UST 3-2 to claim maximum points from two games at the ongoing SWAN Henry Kalio Cup in Port Harcourt.
RSTV won against AIT/ RayPower 2-1 in their first game while Radio UST defeated Garden City Radio 1-0, but in this top of the table clash, the “pensioners” from the State television triumphed.
Martins Junior scored first for RSTV, his 2nd of the tournament and then Sunday Royal’s sublime free kick leveled things up for Radio UST.
First half ended 1-1 but Martins Junior scored again in the 2nd half to give RSTV the lead and then he was on the score sheet for his hat trick to make it 3-1.
Richard Gbogbara scored a late consolation for Radio UST and it ended 3-2 to RSTV.
Owo Esrnesto of Radio UST told ChinaAcheru.com after the game that the RSTV team were more technical than his side.
“It was a good game but our opponents were more technical, experienced and smart with the ball.
“We lost it when we started having issues within ourselves and from that point were disorganised,”Ernesto told ChinaAcheru.com.
“The Garden City Radio team we beat in our first game were more organised than RSTV.”
AIT/ Ray Power ride high
After losing their first game, 2-1 to RSTV, the Daar Communications boys walloped Radio Rivers 4-2 in their 2nd match of the tournament.
It was a Joe Igbokwe Hattrick that gave victory to AIT/ RayPower, even after Martins Bestman opened scored for RSTV.
Martins Giadom of Radio Rivers told ChinaAcheru.com after the game that his players did well but it was just their first game of the tournament so they were still trying to get used to it.
“We actually lacked team play expected in any side playing in this kind of tournament but our opponents were younger and our inability to force them to keep the ball on the ground was our greatest undoing,” Giadom told ChinaAcheru.com.
“Having learned our lessons, the team has returned to the drawing board to strategize and ensure qualification to the next round of this prestigious Henry Kalio Cup.”
Thursday has been declared Match free day to allow journalists cover the Nigeria Professional Football League game between Rivers United and ABS FC.
