Draughts section begins at Etche sports Festival

The draughts section of the Etche Sports Festival began on Monday, December 26 at the Okomoko Town Square.
Draughts, a new addition to the Festival which was previously all about football attracted a registration fee of two hundred naira which was later increased to five hundred because of the large turn out of entrants.
All preliminary games were played on Monday, December 26.
After the preliminary round matches, Paul Omdu, Mike Nwala, Uche Nwalevy and Naked Nwala qualified for the semifinals.
Dr. Uzoma Nwankwo, who alongside his friends and Associates put the Etche Sports Festival together told the media on Monday the idea of the draughts section was to get everybody involved.
“Everybody likes to play in and watch football tournaments, but not everybody can play in them.
“There are the elderly people who also want to be involved too and draughts is a chance for them to be involved.
“This is the first time we are organizing a draughts competition and I am happy with the turn out. Hopefully, it will be even much better next year,” Nwankwo said.
The semifinals, 3rd place match and final of the Draughts section will be played on January 1, 2017.
